As most of you know, I have had to take a vacation from blogging to take care of our environmental business. However, I wanted everyone to know of an event that took place yesterday, which had to be the most bizaare of my entire life.
Jake and I were headed south on Highway 35 and just about a half mile north of Gainesville, TX sign, a small, yellow private airplane headed straight for our car heading north on the highway! It was almost as if he were playing "chicken" with us.
He could not have been more than 20' off the ground, which is against FAA rules ... and so is dive bombing motor vehicles on the highway! He was so close we could see his face (with sun glasses on). Fortunately Jake stayed calm and was able to swerve to the other lane just before he hit us! The pilot then swooped back up into the air above the cars behind us.
This guy must have been drunk. Do you think?
We immediately called the police and the young woman who answered the phone acted as though she could not believe what I was telling her.
She said, "An airplane?!"
I could hear her talking to the other officers on duty in the background and she said, "This lady said their car was almost hit by an airplane ... what do I do with this call?"
I wonder if this was her first day on the job ... if so, it will probably be many years, if ever, that she will receive another 911 call like this one.
My folks asked me if we got the tail number off the plane.
"Are you kidding me? All I could see was that propeller coming straight at us and then we got as far away and as fast as we could!"
Jake is calling FAA this morning.
Just think ... I missed one of those "Kodak moments" that will hopefully I will NEVER, EVER be able to capture in the future.
Thank you LORD for taking care of us and putting your angels around us for protection!
